Story – Ruby Rare
Q: What changes would you like to see for queer people in the UK and in the world in the next 10-15 years?
Ruby: First of all, I would like the debate around whether or not trans people’s lives are valid and worthy to just stop. That would be really nice – if we could just stop having that discussion and celebrate all queer identities. I also would really like to see queer education. I come from a sex education background so obviously that, but also for it to just be part of the educational curriculum in all aspects, and not seen as an add-on, just seen as part of the narrative. Because I think that as soon as you start getting children, and families, and institutions talking about all things queerness in a way that is not sensationalised, celebrated but not tokenistic, just as another glorious way of expressing love, and actually get people having conversations and not be afraid to ask questions that might be difficult or they might not know the answers to – I just want people to chat more – that will do a lot of good.
